The river is tidal and can be navigated easily at high tide to Fowey or Lostwithiel or one of the small villages along the estuary. At low tide, the stepping stones which link the two sides of the village are revealed. The road to Lostwithiel is carried by an ancient stone bridge over the river The river is home to a large variety of birds such as gulls, ducks, geese, swans, herons, egrets, kingfisher, buzzards and many many more.
