The gig Richard Lander about to enter the water at Gorran Haven Cornish gig racing at Gorran Haven. A gig is made from Cornish Elm, and is 32 foot long by 4 foot 3" across its beam. It has 8 thwarts or seats. One of the seats is for the coxswain, six seats for the rowers and there is a "seagull" seat in the bow.
