Golitha Falls are located on the edge of Bodmin Moor 5km north west of Liskeard and 2 km west of the village of St Cleer. The valley consists largely of sessile oak or mixed oak and ash woodland which is a relic of the ancient woodland that once covered much of the surrounding area.
The valley also has an old planted beech avenue with trees covered in lichens on their upper branches. As well as lichens the area is noted for its diverse liverwort and moss communities. There are about 50 liverwort species and approximately 98 moss species some of which are rare.
