Bodmin Gaol
Bomin gaol (jail) famous for its 51 public hangings the cells and dungeons are reported to be haunted. Open to the public are gory displays depicting the gaol's violent past.
Recently acquired by the Wheaton family who intend to refurbish the exhibits and develop a tearoom selling fresh cakes made from local recipes.
"The Western Morning News" Cornwall's local newspaper recently made this statements: "during the First World War the buldings were reputedly used as a hiding place for the Doomsday Book and the Crown Jewels" Since 1779 the gaol has cetainly had a colourful history and at one time was even used as a nightclub.
Bodmin is former county town of Cornwall and is situated next to the breathtaking Bodmin moor which includes popular treks to Roughter and Brown Willy. The towns name comes from the Cornish words "bod" (dwelling) and "monegh" (monks). The town is now bypassed by most travellers entering or leaving Cornwall by road or rail.
