Photos of Kynance Cove Cornwall
Click on a photo for much a higher quality version. About Kynance CoveKynance Cove is located on the Lizard peninsula. Kynance Cove has to be one of the most spectacular parts of the Cornish Coast.Kynans is the Cornish for gorge/ravine and it is said that the Cove was occupied by the Celts as far back as 300 years BC. There is also evidence on the nearby moorland that the area might have been in use during the Bronze Age. The most likely reason for the occupation of this remote place is the ease with which it could be defended and the supply of fresh water. At low tide a beach of golden sand is exposed offering sheltered bathing in the clear blue water. Once the tide comes in the beach disappears, this is when Kynance come into its own. This area has some of the best cliff walking in Cornwall. There is also plenty for the keen geologist to enjoy at Kynance Cove. The Serpentine cliffs are a mass of different colours, reds, greens, blues all is varying intensity. The best time to view the serpentine is as the tide goes out. The wet rock are very beautiful, however care must be taken while on the rocks as they are very slippery. |
