About Bedruthan Steps

These offshore stacks were created by the action of the waves, but legend attributes these outcrops to the Cornish giant Bedruthan who used them as stepping stones. The exposed high stacks on the beach include Redcliff Island, Samaritan Rock, and the pinnacle of Queen Bess Rock complete with ruff but the head of Queen Bess fell off during violent storms in 1982. The route down to the beach at Bedruthan Steps is not for the fainthearted. Those able to negotiate the steep steps are rewarded at the bottom with a beautiful gold beach. Please note however that care must be taken while on the beach especially when exploring the small coves in the area. The tide here comes in quickly and it is easy to get cut off. For those feel unable to get to the beach the area is still more that worth a visit with some of the best cliff walks in Cornwall.
